In my first attempt to silkscreening, I have printed a limited run of 34 posters on A2 format on heavyweight 270 grams paper with high quality and ecofriendly paint. The design is my own, of course. I'm very proud of the result: the design came out exactly like I wanted to. Couldn’t have done it without the great help and enthusiasm of Ramon, Carlien and Kamiel of Kapitaal who have guided me all the way through the process. Thank you!!
As a newbie to this craft, the biggest struggle was to tone down the original design - which was created in Photoshop and not made with screenprinting in mind - and make it suitable for screenprinting. In the end I succeeded by making it a four layer print without loosing the essence of the original design. In fact, I think I improved it. A lesson learned.
The first layer came out great (although the photo is not - my hands were shaking with excitement), but when I printed the second layer - orange on yellow - I knew it was gonna be alright. The orange dots in Super Ape aligned just perfectly! From then on it was smooth sailing. After that the magic truly happened when the black was added (although I must admit I kept a copy of the three colour layer piece, because I found it to be quite inspiring). I had an absolute blast making these.
Quite a few have been sold already to happy customers around the world - can’t wait to see it adorning their wall. There are a few copies left so if interested, please contact me.
